Spread Your Wings

For many Christians, their walk with the Lord is very dull and uneventful. (Don’t get me wrong; there will be days in which all a person can do is slog along in a momentous struggle against the dark forces of evil.) I’m talking about those whose Christian life is a continual plodding, one gray week after another - a few ritual prayers, an appearance at the assembly, and a rather numb-like waiting around for something to happen - for somebody else (the church?) to do something. Such a life in Christ, however, is not what we read about of those who followed the Lord.
Jesus did not wait around for things to happen. He saw the crowds hungry and hurting. He fed them and healed them. He opened His mouth and taught them about the kingdom of heaven. He provided comfort and encouragement. Then He challenged His disciples to look upon the fields which were “white for harvest” and go and do the same things.
Those apostles received their orders from the Master: go, teach, make disciples and train others. And so they did. And the first century Christians followed in their footsteps by proclaiming the gospel and helping those in need. And the church grew.
“But,” you say, “I’m not cut out for that work. I’m really weak in doing those things, and I might mess up.” Well, then, God has you right where He wants you! The strength, the power, the wisdom does not come from us. It never comes from us! It comes from God. Read our text. God gives power to the weak. Those who have no might He increases strength. For those who wait upon the Lord to make them soar, He will send renewed strength so that they will “mount up with wings like eagles.” They will no longer be at the mercy of the downdrafts and updrafts of life but be able to soar to new heights where they have never flown before. God is the power in them so they can live a fulfilled life which brings honor to the Lord.
Are you ready to soar? Just spread your wings a little. Good. Now a little more. Feel the strength? That’s it. Keep going. God is with you! You can fly! You can do it! What power! What a God!
